West Cork Day Tours

To Skibbereen, Baltimore and Sherkin Island:
Visit the West Cork Art Centre on North Street (as you enter the town) and the Skibbereen Heritage Centre incorporating the Lough Hyne and Famine Exhibition. After lunch at “O’Brien’s Bar” in the town centre take the 15 min. drive to Baltimore and enjoy a walk up to the Beacon or a ferry ride to Sherkin Island.

To Bantry and Glengarriff:
Walk around the gardens of historic Bantry House with breathtaking views over Europes biggest natural harbour and enjoy a visit to the Armada Centre on the grounds of Bantry House. After a stroll around Bantry town enjoy lunch at “The Brick Oven” on the square. Take the ferry from Glengarriff to Garinish Island and enjoy the magical setting of Ilnacullen Gardens with rare specimens of trees and shrubs after admiring the seals on the way.

To Castlefreke, Rosscarbery and Glandore:
Enjoy a walk through Castlefreke woods down to Long Strand, passed the Celtic Cross memorial, the largest of its type in Ireland. Castlefreke Castle is privately owned and is not open to the public. After lunch at the “Kingfisher Bar and Restaurant” of the Celtic Ross Hotel situated on Rosscarbery Bay you can walk off those calories with a stroll to or on the Warren Strand or play pitch and putt. Finish the day with a nice pint in once of the homely pubs in Glandore and take in a bit of history at the Drombeg Stone Circle on your way.

To Schull and Mizen Head:
The safe and sheltered Schull Harbour is home to many waterborne activities. Ferry trips to Cape Clear and Sherkin leave the pier daily throughout the summer. While you are there don’t forget to squeeze in a visit to the planetarium on the Colla Road. Before you head for Mizen Head enjoy lunch at “The Bunratty” on the main street. Travelling west from Schull you drive along the bog road built originally in the eighteenth century to carry butter to Cork for export to the new colonies. This tour brings you through the picturesque villages of Goleen and Crookhaven before you arrive
At Mizen Head where you can enjoy the breathtaking views and a tour of Mizen Head Lighthouse Visitor Centre.

To Timoleague, Courtmacsherry and Kinsale:
Explore the ruins of Timoleague Abbey, built in the 14th century, as substantial remains of this Franciscan Abbey are still standing. A beautiful walkway along the waters edge brings you to the charming little sea-front-village of Courtmacsherry which boasts the oldest lifeboat station in Ireland. In Courtmacsherry you can enjoy an al fresco lunch on the bay in “The Lifeboat Inn” before you explore the picturesque Woodwalk and Fuchsia Way). After a 30 min. drive along the coast you can enjoy an afternoon in the busy town of Kinsale, famous for its marina and historic town centre with Spanish influences. Before you return to Clonakilty don’t forget to visit Charles Fort open from Mid April to Mid October.

To Cork City, Fota Wildlife Park and Blarney Castle:
A visit to the City is a welcome contrast with the tranquillity of the countryside. The centre of Cork City is very compact, ideal for walking around and browsing the stalls in the English Market. After lunch at “Luigi Malones” opposite Cork Opera House (the only Opera House in Ireland) you take in some history with a visit to Blarney Castle Estate and Cork City Gaol and Radio Museum or enjoy an afternoon in Fota Wildlife Park set on 70 acres of open countryside with many of its species wandering freely around the park’s natural and attractive environment.
